A simple playhouse does not need to be complicated. This 6×6 basic design uses the same wall framing skills as a shed but on a smaller scale β€” perfect for a first structural build and absolutely unforgettable for your kids.

Specifications

  • Footprint: 6ft x 6ft
  • Wall height: 5ft (scaled for kids)
  • Roof: Simple gable at 6:12 pitch
  • Door: 2ft wide x 4ft tall
  • Window: One 18″ x 18″ opening per side wall

Foundation

Six concrete deck blocks on compacted gravel with a 2×6 floor frame. Add pressure-treated 2×6 flooring or 3/4″ exterior plywood. Elevating the floor slightly prevents moisture wicking.

Fun Additions

  • Window boxes with fake flowers
  • A Dutch door (top and bottom halves open separately)
  • Chalkboard paint on one interior wall
  • A small covered porch with 2ft of extended roofline
