A slide transforms a basic playhouse into an adventure structure. Here is how to build the raised platform and attach a commercial slide safely.

Platform Height

Most commercial children’s slides require a platform height of 36″–48″ for the correct slide angle. Build your playhouse floor at 48″ for a good slide angle and age-appropriate challenge (for kids 4+). For younger children, keep it at 36″.

Buying the Slide

Purchase a commercial children’s slide rather than building one β€” they are tested for safety and correctly shaped. Measure the platform height before ordering to ensure the angle will be correct (most slides specify their mounting height range).

Structural Requirements for a Raised Platform

  • 4×4 corner posts set in concrete (not just deck blocks at this height)
  • 2×6 floor joists at 16″ OC
  • 3/4″ exterior plywood decking screwed (not stapled) in place
  • Full perimeter railing at 36″ height with balusters no more than 4″ apart
