A king size bed frame from a furniture store costs $400β$1,200. Building your own costs $100β$150 in materials and takes a weekend. Here is everything you need.
King Size Dimensions
A standard king mattress is 76″ wide x 80″ long. Your frame interior should be 76.5″ x 80.5″ to allow for easy mattress removal.
Cut List
- Side rails: 2x 2x8x84″ (outer frame)
- End rails: 2x 2x8x80″ (outer frame)
- Centre beams: 2x 2x6x84″ (parallel support)
- Legs: 6x 4x4x14″ (4 corners + 2 centre)
- Slats: 14x 1x4x37″ (span half the width each side)
Important: The Centre Support
A king bed requires two centre support legs in addition to the four corner legs. The span is too wide for the frame to hold without sagging. Add adjustable levelling feet to the centre legs β floors are rarely perfectly flat.
