A leaning ladder shelf is one of the fastest furniture builds in woodworking. Two long rails, five horizontal shelves, and a handful of screws. Here is everything you need.
Cut List (for a 5-shelf unit)
- Rails: 2x 1x3x72″ (the ladder uprights)
- Shelves: 5x 1x10x24″ (the horizontal shelves)
Assembly
- Mark shelf positions on both rails β bottom shelf at 4″, then every 13″ up
- Drill pocket holes in the ends of each shelf
- Screw shelves to rails using pocket hole screws
- Sand and finish
- Lean against wall at approximately 15Β° angle
Styling Tips
- A dark stain (Minwax Dark Walnut) gives a high-end look on cheap pine
- Add rope between shelves for a nautical style variation
- Use a copper pipe instead of the top rail for an industrial look
- Tack a small furniture pad to the top of each rail to protect your wall
